More Security for Renters

More Security for Renters Main Image

Life for renters has always had its hurdles, and with the recent uptick in the cost of living, many families are feeling the pinch.

That’s why we’ve made a few changes, to make things a little easier.

  • We’ve expanded the rights of renters to have pets in their home, meaning more places are available you and your furry friends.
  • We’ve developed a five-year standard tenancy agreement, allowing renters to put down roots for better stability, and a steadier income source for property owners
  • We’ve capped rental increases to once every 12 months to limit nasty surprises for renters.
  • We’ve expanded the rights of renters to hang a painting, install a security system, or plant a veggie garden.
  • We’ve updated the standards that rental properties have to meet, like safer electricals, hot and cold water, proper blinds, proper heating and more.
  • And now, we’re building a Rental Taskforce, to crack down on dodgy landlords and their unfair practices.

In November 2025, we added another batch of key rental reforms to give renters more security and certainty.

  • Banning no-fault evictions
  • Ending rental bidding
  • Extending notice periods
  • Lifting minimum standards
  • Strengthening safety and privacy protections.
