Yarrambat and most of Plenty are protected by the green wedge.

No high-density development has been approved for this area. I know some residents have been told otherwise. I want to be clear: this area is protected, and I do not support opening them up for high-density development or inappropriate subdivision.

Our community has a character that should be protected: open space, trees, wildlife, horses, rural-residential living and a deep connection to the landscape.

Victoria has strong green wedge protections for areas like this. Those protections are there for a reason. They stop protected land being quietly carved up by council developers, landowners, landbankers or speculators.

But we also know there is pressure from some quaters to overturn or weaken those protections.

This is why I want the community on the record now.

I want it clearly recorded that residents of Yarrambat and Plenty do not suport high-density development, innapropriate small-lot subdivision or any attempt to weaken the green wedge protections that apply to these areas.

The Victorian Government is delivering the Yan Yean Road and M80 ring road interchange upgrades because they are important improvements for our area. These projects should not be used as an excuse by developers to push for opening up the green wedge, or as an entrée for innapropriate development.

Your feedback will help show developers and land speculators that the community rejects their push to open up these areas, and prove to decision-makers that any claims otherwise are false.

These areas are already protected.
